چکیده

This review was undertaken with an eye of providing an evidence-based guide for internists in the utilization of the various techniques in the diagnosis of pulmonary emboli. Pulmonary angiography represents a group of tests that are used alone or in combination to evaluate for the presence of pulmonary emboli (PE)† and encompasses computed tomography (CT) pulmonary angiography (which is noninvasive), catheter digital subtraction angiography (DSA) (which requires a right heart catheterization), as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) angiography. All forms of angiography require the use of intravenous contrast. CT pulmonary angiography and, to a lesser extent, conventional DSA (as it has to be performed by an interventional radiologist) are available emergently in almost all centers. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) angiography currently is limited to the clinical research setting and is limited by the cost and time it takes to perform a study.

ارتباط شدت آمبولی ریه در سی تی آنژیوگرافی با یافته‌های ECG در بیماران مبتلا به آمبولی حاد ریه

Background & Aims: The most common diagnostic modality for pulmonary emboli is CT angiography (CTA). Because of the availability and inexpensiveness, taking an electrocardiogram (ECG) is the first step in patients suspicious to pulmonary emboli. However, ECG does not provide any sensitive or specific manifestations for diagnosis of pulmonary emboli. We aim to evaluate the correlation between...

Preoperative Emboli in a Pregnant Woman with Myxoma

The left atrium is the most common location of myxomas, which are benign tumors. Only a few cases of myxomas in pregnancies have been reported. Our thorough medical literature search showed only 17 reported cases in the course of pregnancy. Myxomas during pregnancy and in the preterm period constitute a serious phenomenon that can mimic an early sign of a life-threatening pathology like severe ...

Feasibility of using Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit in volumetric studies to accurate diagnosing of vascular emboli by Extended NURBS-based Cardiac-Torso phantom

Introduction: Important complications of venous thromboembolism (VTE) are a longer hospital stay, readmission, recurrence of the emboli, complications of anticoagulant therapy and death in a sever condition. In present study, the volume measurement accuracy of the medical imaging interaction toolkit (MITK) software on determining VTE in computed tomography images was evaluated....

Diagnosing pulmonary embolism

A b st ra ct Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common, treatable, highly lethal emergency, which despite advances in diagnostic testing, remains an under diagnosed killer. The mortality rate of diagnosed and treated pulmonary embolism ranges from 3-8%, but increases to about 30% in untreated pulmonary embolism. PE is a part of the spectrum of venousthromboembolic disease and most pulmonary emboli ha...

Diagnosis of pulmonary embolism with magnetic resonance angiography.

BACKGROUND Diagnosing pulmonary embolism may be difficult, because there is no reliable noninvasive imaging method. We compared a new noninvasive method, gadolinium-enhanced pulmonary magnetic resonance angiography, with standard pulmonary angiography for diagnosing pulmonary embolism. METHODS A total of 30 consecutive patients with suspected pulmonary embolism underwent both standard pulmona...
